Welcome to Aiken Ophthalmology, with over 25 years of experience, we proudly serve the eyecare, eyewear, and surgical needs of the CSRA (Central Savannah River Area).
Founded by Dr. Smith and Dr. Patheja in 2000, we recognized the importance of expanding our services to better serve our wonderful community. This led to the establishment of a full-time satellite location in North Augusta and our spacious 15,000 square foot facility in Aiken, which houses the region's only Ophthalmic Ambulatory Surgery Center.
In 2018, we were delighted to welcome Dr. Greer, one of the few Glaucoma Specialists in South Carolina, to our esteemed team. The following year, Dr. Potter, a native of North Augusta, joined us as well, prompting us to further expand our North Augusta facility to meet the growing demand for exceptional Ophthalmic care in the CSRA. When Dr. Smith retired in 2022, we gladly welcomed Dr. Gray to ensure the continued provision of outstanding eyecare and surgical services to the community. Dr. Greer, Dr. Potter, and Dr. Gray, all having trained at the University of Florida, recognized the value of working together as a cohesive unit.
In 2022, we were also fortunate to have Dr. Hamlin, a North Augusta native with years of experience in serving the eyecare needs of the CSRA, join our dedicated team. We are thrilled to have her as an integral part of our Eye Care Team.

My visit was very pleasant. I arrived early and was taken early - always a plus. The assistant who performed the basics, Blake, was knowledgeable, personable, helpful - and made even somewhat uncomfortable process (mainly dilation) almost fun. His part of the exam was thorough. Dr. Hamlin likewise was easy to talk to, chatted amiably while doing the exam and very quick to explain everything. As always, I felt I was in good hands at Aiken Ophthalmology.
I have been a patient of Aiken Ophthalmology and under the care of Dr Greer for three years. Their careful attention to appropriate testing, explanation of findings by both staff and doctors has exceeded my expectations at each appointment. The medical support staff is clearly well trained and it is obvious that training is kept up to date as technology changes and improves. The atmosphere that wraps around this technical excellence is cheerful and unhurried, yet they have achieved on time starts and then prompt and efficient completion of my appointment times in every case. The comprehensive care received results in my feeling safe, the health of my eyes well understood, and prospects for the future bright. Staff was great! Pleasant, knew what they were to do. Worked so well together in getting their patients in and seen by the doctors. All were exceptionally pleasant. I felt I received the best eye exam ever. I thank the entire staff for being so caring..
My visit was very good. I didn't wait over 10 minutes in any one place as I was guided through the individual steps of my eye exam. The technicians were all very courteous and I was very comfortable with each of them. Dr. Gray explained my eyes' condition thoroughly and his advised plan to correct the current situation. I feel very good about moving forward with him and his staff.
I have never been anything but please with my experiences at Aiken Ophthalmology. I have found all staff to be courteous, friendly and helpful. Dr. Patheja is a caring, knowledgeable eye doctor who explains everything to you. I have been going to him for almost nine years.
Everyone was very nice and professional. I did not have to wait past my scheduled appointment time and they were very thorough. Dr. Potter was super nice and answered all of my questions-most before I even had to ask. Definitely recommend this office.
